Black Screen

A permanent or persistent black screen (often called “Black Screen of Death”) occurs when a device—computer, smartphone, or monitor—is powered on, but the screen displays nothing, rendering the device unusable. Common Causes

Hardware Issues: Loose cables, faulty display cables (HDMI/DisplayPort), or an improperly seated graphics card or RAM.

Driver Failures: Corrupted or outdated graphics card drivers.

Software Glitches: A failed OS update, corrupt system files, or software freezes.

Failed Boot: The computer fails to load the operating system (BIOS issues). Troubleshooting Computers (Windows)

Check Connections: Ensure monitor cables (HDMI, DisplayPort) are securely connected and the monitor is powered on.

Restart Drivers: If the PC is on, press Windows Key + Ctrl + Shift + B to wake up the screen.

Force Restart: Hold the power button for 10 seconds to shut down the PC, then turn it back on.

Enter Safe Mode: If the screen is black but a cursor is visible, try opening Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) to restart explorer.exe. If that fails, try entering Safe Mode by repeatedly forcing a shutdown to trigger recovery mode.

Check BIOS/Boot Order: If the screen shows the computer logo but not Windows, enter the BIOS to ensure your storage drive (SSD/HDD) is properly detected. Troubleshooting Smartphones (Android)

Force Restart: Press and hold the power button and volume down button simultaneously for 10-20 seconds.

Charge the Device: Charge the phone for at least 25 minutes before attempting to force a restart, as a fully drained battery can cause a black screen that requires a charging boost to wake up.

Check for Physical Damage: If the screen was dropped or exposed to liquid, it may have permanent hardware damage requiring service.

If the screen remains black, the issue might be a failed graphics card (GPU) or a damaged monitor, requiring a technician. If you’d like, let me know: What device is experiencing the black screen?

Does it happen immediately upon turning it on, or after it has been running for a while? Do you see any lights (power/keyboard) or hear fan noise? I can provide more targeted troubleshooting steps.
